Radio Promotion Editing

After having recorded my audio for my radio presentation, and having selected the audio I want to use from my location based recording, I moved onto the post-production stage with the audio.

The program I used for this was called Audacity and is a free open source application which comes with a range of special effects and easy to use tools. I have used this program for a very long time, giving me lots of experience in using it, and I found that I could produce a finished radio promotion fairly quickly and effectively.

The dictaphone I used to record the footage gave a surprisingly high quality file type, which is excellent seeing as the higher quality the file, the less quality lost when editing out noise and such.

Finishing up the listing pages

After having worked for a while deciding what kind of images were going to be in my main picture-dominated page, I have finished both pieces. The kind of images that I included are based around Goulet himself, I tried to put as much emphasis as possible with the pictures on his self image, all of which are either portraits of Goulet or conceptualised images relating to him.

The article based page I created on the Pages software, as opposed to the picture based one which was easier to create on Photoshop. The differences between them are small, a few changes in colour and picture arrangement, but in my opinion both fit together quite well.

In terms of software, I found that Photoshop was a lot easier to use than Pages. This was in part due to the system I was using it on. Photoshop, while stereotypically being thought of as a photo editing application is actually equally as good if not better than pages at editing text as well. Certainly pages has the benefit of a slightly easier to use operating system, but does not provide nearly half the level of control over various aspects of your work that Photoshop does.

Revised magazine flat plans

Based on some examples I have seen, and the example shown in my previous post, I have revised my double page spread designs. The Guardian's example of a TV listings magazine is in my opinion a much more modern and artistic example of how TV listings can be presented. I also feel that this is the style that would best fit my documentary, as music is a form of art and subsequent artwork can support that theme.

After researching the conventions of magazine pages a bit more, I have decided to remake my plan in the style of the above Guide from The Guardian. The main difference between this example and my original plan is the dominance of the image on the second page, which is eyecatching and contrasts the opposite page of text.

Magazine Flat Plan Draft

These are my preliminary ideas for the layout of the magazine pages. The shapes I have drawn will overlap in most places, integrating the text with the image.

Radio Promotion

Here is the script I have written for my radio promotion.

*CONSIDER SMALL JINGLE*

“With the constantly changing world of new technology and the ever growing virtual environment, this new documentary titled ‘’ delves into the mind of the members of a virtual band and explores what exactly ‘existing’ means in today’s society’

*INSERT CLIP FROM MAIN PIECE*

*INSERT DATE AND TIME OF SHOW*

Using a dictophone I can record this in high quality, allowing the editing process of the audio to be done without loss of quality.
